Description
In this activity, students will get hands-on experience with experimental and theoretical probability. Also, it involves their favorite thing…candy! Students will explore how theoretical and experimental probability compare and how this changes with the more experiments that you do.
You will need to obtain a bag of conversation hearts and create bags with your preferred amount of candy. Students may work individually, in pairs, or in groups. There is a lot of flexibility with this activity.
Students will first find the theoretical probability of choosing each color of the Valentine’s candy heart, then they will find the experimental probability when choosing 20 hearts, then 50, and then 100. Reflection Questions are included!
